Some people can live entirely on their own. Some people need full time care. And then there are the people in between, the people who are capable, independent in many ways, and still need a safety net.

They may cook their own meals, manage their routines, work, shop, and make decisions for themselves, while still needing help with things like leases, household responsibilities, unexpected maintenance, transportation, finances, or navigating systems that were never designed with them in mind. Others may simply need more structure, more predictability, or the reassurance of knowing that they are not entirely on their own.

Too often, housing systems offer only narrow choices. A person is expected either to live independently with very little support or to move into a setting that may feel more institutional than necessary. UNITY exists because people do not all need the same thing, and good housing should be able to adapt to the person rather than forcing the person to adapt to the housing.

For some people, shared living is exactly the right fit. It offers connection, affordability, familiarity, and the comfort of having other people nearby. For others, a shared home can eventually become too busy or overwhelming, even though living completely alone would create a different kind of isolation. Our single person ADUs are designed to bridge that gap. They offer a private home, quiet, and personal space, while still allowing someone to remain close to neighbors, familiar faces, and the larger UNITY community when they want company or connection.

Our companion homes create another option for people who need more individualized support. They allow a person to receive the level of assistance they need while still living in a home that feels like a home. The emphasis is on maintaining normalcy, routine, privacy, familiarity, and community rather than making care the defining feature of where someone lives.

That flexibility is central to what inclusiveness means to us. Inclusion is not simply putting everyone in the same setting. It is creating different ways for people to belong. Some people want frequent interaction. Some want occasional interaction. Some need caregivers nearby. Some need more space and quiet. A person’s needs can also change over time, and their housing should be able to change with them without unnecessarily removing them from the community and relationships they have built.

UNITY does more than create housing. We continue to provide it. We remain responsible for maintaining the homes, preserving their stability, adapting where practical as needs change, and making sure the housing itself continues to work for the people who rely on it. That continuity is part of the difference. We are not simply creating units. We are building and sustaining places where people can remain securely housed over time.

That is why UNITY exists. To create and continue providing housing that is inclusive enough to recognize difference, flexible enough to adapt, and stable enough to let people build real lives around it. A place where people can have support when they need it, space when they need it, and community when they want it.
